When selecting a plate-and-frame heat exchanger, design and selection personnel often receive only the medium name but lack the three basic conditions: inlet and outlet temperatures, flow rate, and allowable pressure drop. When parameters are incomplete, estimating the number of plates based on experience can easily cause the flow arrangement to deviate from actual operating conditions: too few plates result in insufficient heat transfer, while too many plates increase investment and pump power consumption. The BR-120 plate-and-frame heat exchanger is intended for such selection scenarios. It is recommended that the medium name, inlet and outlet temperatures, design flow rate, and allowable pressure drop be provided together before inquiry, so that the supplier can calculate the number of plates and flow arrangement accordingly and form a verifiable selection scheme.
Medium corrosiveness is the main basis for determining plate material. Titanium is suitable for seawater or chlorine-containing medium conditions. During procurement, the supplier should be required to provide material certificates, and the plate thickness should be checked against the design pressure to avoid mismatches such as thin plates paired with high pressure. Gasket material must match the medium temperature and chemical properties. During assembly, tighten evenly in a diagonal sequence to prevent leakage caused by one-sided stress.
After plates scale, heat transfer efficiency decreases. Cleaning should use chemical cleaning agents compatible with the plate material, and the formula and concentration should be selected according to the type of scale. Tools such as wire brushes must not be used to mechanically scratch the plate surface, as scratches will damage the passive film and become corrosion initiation points. After disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly, check the gaskets for aging and deformation, and keep the plates clean during resetting.
This type of equipment can be used for heat exchange between HVAC water systems, process cooling water and media, and general industrial liquid heat exchange applications. During installation, reserve maintenance space for pulling out the plates, and install removable flanges at pipeline connections. Perform a hydrostatic test before operation, and put the equipment into operation after confirming there is no leakage.
