To achieve all-weather digital functionality in solar water heaters, a high-performance water temperature and level meter is required. In addition to its various functions, the auxiliary components must have reliable performance. To meet the hot water demand in cloudy or rainy weather, auxiliary electric heating is a necessary key component. Currently, most water temperature and level meters control the electric heating function by setting a timed heating schedule. To prevent dry burning, heating is not activated when the water level is half full. It should also be noted that international standards for electric water heaters require the power supply part to have leakage protection function or be equipped with a leakage protection plug. The relay driving the electric heating must be selected to meet the requirements of high current.

Currently, the quality of electric heating used in solar water heaters is not up to standard. Temporary dry burning resistance is often claimed as dry burning prevention. During dry burning, the power is only temporarily cut off, and after a few minutes when the temperature drops slightly, it automatically reconnects and starts heating again. Frequent operation of the built-in thermostat can burn it out at any time and also shorten the lifespan of the heating tube. The water temperature and level meter is required to control the time and water temperature during heating of the water tank. Therefore, water temperature and level meters equipped with this function have different requirements for the heating tube. The heating tube does not need to have its own water temperature control, but it must have overheat protection and dry burning prevention functions, so that it can be effectively protected under abnormal conditions. This function is achieved by embedding a 2-in-1 overheat protector in the heating tube. When the heating tube experiences overtemperature or dry burning due to water shortage, the built-in 2-in-1 overheat protector quickly activates to disconnect the power and stop heating. This protector will not reset until the relay supplying power to the heating tube has disconnected its contacts. Only after the relay stops supplying power to the heating tube will the protector reset. That is, the heating tube will not frequently power on and dry burn under abnormal conditions, thus effectively protecting the heating tube. (The heating tube with this function has obtained national patent protection.) Effective prevention of dry burning is the primary key condition for extending the lifespan of the heating tube.
