Category: Explosion-proof Heater

Product Description

Explosion-proof electric heater

Explosion-proof electric heaters are heating equipment specifically designed for hazardous environments with explosive gases or dust, such as chemical, petroleum, natural gas, and military industries. Based on ordinary tubular electric heaters, they ensure safe operation in flammable and explosive places through special structural design and strict certification.

Core explosion-proof principle

The core of an explosion-proof electric heater lies in the explosion-proof design of its junction box (electrical cavity). It mainly adopts the flameproof type (Ex d) structure, the principle of which is:

Sturdy enclosure: The junction box is made of high-strength materials such as cast aluminum alloy, capable of withstanding the pressure of an internal explosion without damage.

Flameproof joints: The mating surfaces between enclosure components are precision-machined with specific gaps and widths. Even if an internal explosion is triggered by electrical sparks, the flames and hot gases will be sufficiently cooled when passing through the joints, preventing ignition of the external explosive atmosphere.

Multiple protections: Usually equipped with an independent overheat protection device that can immediately cut off the power supply when the temperature rises abnormally, preventing danger at the source.

Key selection parameters

When selecting in hazardous environments, the following explosion-proof parameters must be strictly verified, which are clearly marked on the product's explosion-proof certificate and nameplate:

Parameter category Key indicator Description

Explosion-proof marking Such as Ex d IIB T4 Gb Core identification, indicating the explosion-proof type, gas group, temperature class, and equipment protection level.

Applicable zone Zone 1, Zone 2 Zone 1: Explosive atmosphere may occur during normal operation; Zone 2: Unlikely to occur during normal operation, and if it occurs, it exists only for a short time.

Gas group IIA, IIB, IIC Represents the type of explosive gas. Class IIC (such as hydrogen, acetylene) has the strictest requirements and is downward compatible.

Temperature class T1 ~ T6 The maximum surface temperature of the equipment must be lower than the ignition temperature of the explosive gas at the site. T4 corresponds to a maximum of 135°C, T6 corresponds to 85°C.

Protection rating Such as IP66 Dust and water protection rating. IP66 means fully dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets, suitable for outdoor or harsh conditions.

Main types and application scenarios

According to the heating medium and structure, explosion-proof electric heaters are mainly divided into the following categories:

Explosion-proof immersion/tank-type heaters

Application: Directly inserted into water tanks, oil tanks, reaction towers, large storage tanks to heat, maintain temperature, reduce viscosity, or prevent solidification of liquids such as water, oil, heat transfer oil, and chemical solutions.

Features: Some models adopt a flexible structure, allowing replacement of heating elements without draining the tank medium, making maintenance convenient.

Explosion-proof duct heaters

Application: Installed in industrial air ducts, drying rooms, or workshops to circulate and heat air or other gases for drying, vulcanization, heat treatment, or space heating.

Features: Usually equipped with fins to increase heat dissipation area and improve heat exchange efficiency; the control system needs to be interlocked with the fan to ensure airflow before heating, preventing dry burning.

Explosion-proof space heaters/fan heaters

Application: Used for winter heating or process insulation in factory workshops, warehouses, pump rooms, and other local spaces.

Features: Mostly mobile or wall-mounted, compact structure, built-in temperature control and overheat protection, ready to use.

Safety use and maintenance points

Compliance certification: When purchasing, it must be confirmed that the product has a complete machine explosion-proof certificate issued by a national authoritative institution and complies with the GB 3836 series national standards.

No dry burning: The effective heating section of an immersion heater must be completely submerged in the medium, otherwise it will burn out in a very short time.

Reliable grounding: The equipment enclosure must be reliably connected to the grounding system, which is a basic safety measure to prevent electric shock and eliminate static sparks.

Regular maintenance: Regularly clean the scale, carbon deposits, or dust on the surface of the heating tube. These attachments will seriously affect heat dissipation, causing local overheating of the tube, shortening its lifespan, and even causing danger.

Standard operation: Strictly follow the instruction manual, especially for duct heaters, and be sure to follow the interlock logic of "start the fan first, then the heater; turn off the heater first, then the fan."
